The Showcave in a nutshell

Visit the Autumn Labyrinth

General information

Autumn Labyrinth – Showcave Breitscheid

It takes 124 steps to reach another world. Space and time seem to have no meaning here. On the other hand, the imagination is inevitably stimulated. Beneath the earth lies a magical realm that awaits illumination in the dark. In the sudden light of the spotlights, it begins to glitter and sparkle, stalactites become dream formations that allow us to imagine things of an unexpected kind. Not a journey to the center of the earth, but an excursion into the largest and probably most beautiful cave system in Hessen.

A SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

Discover caves individually in the Herbstlabyrinth

A visit to the Herbstlabyrinth showcave is something special in more ways than one. In a small group of regularly 13 people, you will be in the cave for just under an hour and can enjoy the beauty of the diverse stalactite formations. In the Herbstlabyrinth, you will be walking in a cave that is both a protected monument and a nature reserve. For this reason, the design of the tour route was chosen so that everything in the cave could remain untouched and unchanged. The entire installation of lighting and paths was carried out by a company whose employees are experienced cave explorers as well as skilled craftsmen.

The guided tour is led by trained people whose training is based on a curriculum for cave guides. You will learn about geological facts worth knowing, stalactites, cave shapes and speleology and have the opportunity to touch a 30,000-year-old cave bear bone and even get your hands on a stalactite. But none that are still growing in the cave and there is no pardon here – cave protection has absolute priority in the Herbstlabyrinth.

Safety for you and the cave

Tips and information before the visit

The way in and out of the show cave requires a bit of fitness. 124 steps have to be mastered. A visit to the cave is therefore not recommended for people with severe cardiovascular problems, knee joint disorders or other walking difficulties.

The temperature in the cave is 9 degrees Celsius with almost 100% humidity. Remember to wear warm clothing and shoes with flat soles (no small heels due to the lattice stone construction on the paths). No rucksacks, child carriers, walking sticks etc. and no animals or food may be taken into the cave.

However, photography without flash is permitted and during the tour you will even have time to choose the right motif at your leisure.
